Living legend, rock 'n roll royalty, diva -- call him whatever you'd like but Elton John is the real deal. The 61-year-old gave a packed house all they could handle and more at the Brandt Centre on Tuesday night with his 26-song set, resulting in a multitude of standing ovations.
The 44-year-old funky, psychedelic retro-rocker, who had to reschedule his entire Canadian tour this spring due to a nasty bout of bronchitis, more than made up for the delay last night with an energetic, downright fiery and often strangely loose show at Brandt Centre.
Leave it up legendary Brit rockers Iron Maiden to once again blaze a new trail by filling a lingering void which has plagued the heavy metal genre for years: pagan virgins "burned alive" in a twenty-foot tall wicker statue. A kick ass stunt to be sure though.
His first number, "Love and Only Love," had him ringing hell out of his guitar, stamping the stage like a raging bull and staking out his territory. For many acts this would be the high-water mark of their show, but Neil Young was just getting started.
